Selling Kids on Stars of Exploration

We want kids to seek out role models, or stars, in science, engineering, and math because we need their talents in these fields to support the discoveries and innova- tions as well as the economy so necessary to their futures. We have a platform for reaching the leaders of tomorrow. Star of Exploration Dr. Robert D. Ballard is able to use his natural charisma and passion for exploration to inspire tens of thousands of kids each year. Our team works aboard E/V Nautilus, a ship with the capability of transmitting ocean exploration live 24/7 to kids on shore.

Stars as Mentors on a Challenging but Rewarding Path

The Corps of Exploration is a cadre of scientists and engineers who are stars in their fields and can serve as role models to kids. We recognize that kids see science, math, and engineering as difficult subjects, but we can use role models to engage kids and make science and engineering personal and achievable. Our role models help inspire kids to take the hard road ahead to any career and future they choose. Our Stars serve as mentors and guides to demonstrate how kids can embark on a path to a compelling career in science and engineering.

Making our Stars Visible

The Nautilus Exploration Program and its education and outreach programs are already attracting a global audience. Since 2009, we have reached an estimated audience of 14 million people worldwide, through collaborations with partners such as the National Geographic Society and Sea Reserach Foundation on films, books, television, and online resources such as Nautilus Live.
